Program Overview
Experience the work environment of an Operator, Maintenance Mechanic, Maintenance Machinist, Electrician, Instrumentation Technician, or Lab Worker at a Bay Area water or wastewater agency.
Learn to work safely and responsibly while shadowing and assisting tradespeople as they inspect and repair operational, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems to ensure efficient operation.
This Program Provides
- Paid internship at Bay Area water and wastewater agencies
- Hands-on experience in operations and maintenance trades
- Post-internship referrals to job openings with Bay Area agencies
- Referrals to local apprenticeship and civil service testing opportunities
Internship Requirements
- Completion of at least one semester of one of the following:
- Water Technology
- Machine Technology
- IMMM certificate training
- Industrial Electrical, Electronic, Instrumentation & Controls
- Laboratory Sciences
(or equivalent formal apprenticeship, military training, or private trades program; equivalent work experience may be considered)
- High school diploma or GED
- 18 years of age or older
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting/carrying tools and equipment (50+ lbs)
- Willingness to work outdoors and in inclement weather
