Position Description

WCW is seeking passionate, hard-working leaders to fill the roles of Collection Systems Crew Member and Senior Collection Systems Crew Member in our Collection System Operations Division.

Senior Collection System Crew Member: $90,298 – $111,280
Collection System Crew Member: $75,374 – $92,846

These crucial positions are ideal for candidates who are reliable, flexible and accountable for their work. Candidates should have a strong understanding of collection systems operations and procedures, but also interpersonal skills and he ability to find creative ways to problem solve.

Key assignments include construction, repairs, cleaning and inspection work. Specifically:
*Mechanical Rodding
*Hydro flush cleaning
*Vac-truck operation
*Sewer line spot repairs
*Wet well cleaning
*CCTV sewer line inspection

CS Crew Members will regularly communicate via telephone and radio, perform heavy manual work, operate hand and power tools, including compressors, jackhammers and cement mixers.
Work also includes:
*Entering and researching data on computers,
*Removing blockages and obstructions from sewer lines
*Excavating trenches to line and grade and repair old pipe, install new pipe, couplings and fittings, and
*Reading, understanding maps and underground sewer systems.

Preferred Qualities:
*Knowledge of materials, tools and equipment used in construction and maintenance
*Uses of a variety of heavy equipment, vehicles and tools
*Ability to read, understand and follow work rules and procedures, understand and carry out oral and written directions
*Work together and support crew members and accept constructive feedback

Preferred Experience: Experience working in construction and maintenance of pipe lines, plants, buildings, equipment and vehicles.

Position Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

SENIOR COLLECTION SYSTEM CREW MEMBER:

Experience: Four years of experience in construction and maintenance work, including at least three years performing duties comparable to those of a Collection System Crew Member in the West County Wastewater.

Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. Equivalency, or California high school proficiency certificate.

License OR Certificate: Possession of a Grade 2 Collection System Maintenance Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) at the time of application. Possession of a Grade 3 Collection System Maintenance Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) within one year of appointment.

Possession of a valid Class A Driver's License with a tank endorsement and must meet all written, physical, testing and notification requirements of the Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) for drug and alcohol testing.

COLLECTION SYSTEM CREW MEMBER:

Experience: Two (2) years of general work experience in construction and maintenance of wastewater facilities, pipe lines, plants, buildings, equipment, or vehicles.

Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. Equivalency, or California high school proficiency certificate.

License OR Certificate: Possession of a Grade I Collection System Maintenance Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association (CWEA). Newly appointed employees must meet this requirement prior to successful completion of probation.

Possession of a valid California Driver's License. The incumbent must continue to meet all of the provisions of the Driving Policy as a condition of continued employment.
