Position Description

The Collection Systems Worker II (journey-level) performs a variety of skilled, semi-skilled and manual labor tasks related to the operation, physical and televised inspection, locating, hydro-cleaning, maintenance and repair of agency-operated underground recycled water and wastewater collection systems and above ground conveyance and pumping stations and operates various recycled water and wastewater collection and conveyance system cleaning and maintenance machinery including a pressurized hydro-cleaner and/or sewer vacuum truck, vehicles and closed circuit television equipment.

The Collection System Worker III (lead level) performs water and wastewater underground installation and surface street sweeping maintenance, repair and inspection work which are integrated with lead level duties including developing water and wastewater infrastructure maintenance and street sweeping operating procedures, monitoring operational details and special projects.

The Collection Systems Workers may be required to work overtime as needed and are expected to respond or report to duty in emergency situations, which may occur after hours, on weekends and/or holidays.

Position Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications for this position includes a combination of training and experience that demonstrates that a person has obtained the required knowledge and is able to perform the required work (with reasonable accommodation, if needed). A person with the following combined training and experience would typically qualify to compete in a selection process:

Collection Systems Worker II:
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
• Experience: Three (3) years of experience in conveyance and collection system maintenance and operation.
• Required License and Certifications:
o A valid California State Class B Driver’s License including valid endorsement is required at the time of hire or appointment and must be maintained at all times. License must include special endorsements to operate a tank vehicle with air brakes. This position is subject to the requirements of the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for random drug and alcohol testing.
o A valid California Water Environmental Association (CWEA) Grade I Collection System Maintenance certification is required at time of hire or appointment.
o A valid California Water Environmental Association (CWEA) Grade II Collection System Maintenance certification is required or must be obtained prior to the completion of the probationary period.
o A valid Pipeline Assessment certification (PACP) issued by the National Association of Sewer Services Companies (NASSCO) is required or must be obtained prior to the completion of the probationary period.
o A valid Competent Person Trench Safety and Excavation Training certification issued by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is required or must be obtained prior to the completion of the probationary period.
Collection Systems Worker III:
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by vocational or technical courses in construction, drafting, or engineering.
• Experience: Five (5) years of experience in collection system maintenance and operations.
• Required License and Certifications:
o A valid California State Class B license with a tank endorsement must be maintained at all times. License must include special endorsements to operate a tank vehicle with air brakes. This position is subject to the requirements of the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for random drug and alcohol testing.
o California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Grade III Collection System Maintenance and Operation Certification.
